I started this blog as something to do while on airplanes and sitting at airports. I initially thought that I could simply use open time to share thoughts and use the creative and curious social network at large to help drive collaborative outcomes.
What I've found, which is probabaly not unlike average blogger, is that it's a great idea but like hitting the gym at 6am it's a habit that has to be established and reinforced. I still have a desire to keep this going and hopefully establish a baseline frequency so in summary.... hang in there and I'll see what I can do to getting this worked back in to the schedule.
On a quick side note, this economy has made it incredibly interesting from a sales perspective. There's plenty to be worried and upset about. I for one just about panic when I see my Smith Barney account these days but as a sales professional I simply have to add that this creates an incredible market to sell in to.
Here's a few reminders as you head into the work week:
- Don't overestimate your position with prospects and ESPECIALLY with clients
- Assume that the 'other' guy wants it more
- Service is STILL king and yes even today it's enough to win the decision
- No you haven't done everything you can to win this decision
- Remember to ask for referrals..... even in a soft market people like to talk.
Good luck out there and keep your head down and keep doing what got you here... it wasn't a fluke and you'll need to stick to your core strengths to get through the market ahead of us.

I grew up completely enamored with the writings of J. R. R. Tolkien and children versions of Homer's Greek epics told in "the Iliad" but the current market reminds me of fond memories of another type of book that used to find it's way into my backpack on the way to school. I'll start by saying that I hope many of you at some time in your life had the absolute pleasure of reading a Pick-a-Path book on your favorite subject.
